Sidebar: BLEAARRGH!!

Color photograph of an unopened package of toy jewelry from 1962-64. On the package is text reading "Teen Age Fashion Model Barbie Play Jewelry... A matching ser for Barbie" and two labels: "This is Barbie's jewelry!" "And a matching set for YOU...!" to the sides of a window showing silvertone and rhinestone necklace, earrings, and other pieces in child size and doll size. The package is illustrated in color. The illustration of Barbie looks positively glam: a brunette bubble cut character stands confidently wearng elbow-length white gloves, a white fur stole, and pink evening gown with necklace and earrings before a city skyline in olive and blue tones. Honestly the city looks a little polluted when I dwell on it too long. To the fore is an illustration of a child that is not as glam, a little girl with blonde ponytail also wearing jewelry, looking like she may be trying to smile while deeply pained or perhaps she is just shrieking her head off. Her hands are held up in front of her chest with fingers splayed like she is warding off some horror. I don't know but perhaps if a kid posed for this she may not have enjoyed the feeling of the clip-on earrings. She looks like she wants it to be over.
